Parents Initiative a ‘Regional First’
A PIONEERING couples program that is being launched this year by the Children’s Protection Society is believed to be a first for the north east region of Melbourne.

Following an injection of funds by the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation, CPS is collaborating with Epping’s Northern Hospital to sign up parents-to-be into one of five groups that will run for four weeks each. The program, ‘We’re A Family!’, is being run by CPS’s Fathers Support Services.

“Unlike other group work programs that work with couples who have known risk factors, the goal of this program is prevention by helping parents into the best possible position to raise their child,” said Community Services Manager, Andrew Rush.

“The birth of a child is a stressful time of transition for parents; it places pressure on couples through issues like sleep deprivation and emotional, physical and financial demands, and requires an increased capacity for these couples to communicate and relate to each other in positive and supportive ways. “

Vale Dame Elisabeth Murdoch
Farewell to a lady: (left to right) Mrs Jan de Kretser, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, CPS Patron Elaine Marriner and former CPS CEO Bernadette Burchell at a special event at Government House in 2007.

THE news of the passing of Dame Elisabeth Murdoch on Wednesday, December 5, was met with great sadness by Board, Management and staff of the Children’s Protection Society.

Our relationship with Dame Elisabeth dates back more than 50 years. She was a very generous donor to our organisation and a VIP invited to all of our special events.

With a lifelong dedication to children and their welfare, her charitable spirit made her a well loved and respected public figure in Australian life.

As a result of her tireless community work, she was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia, and in 1963 was appointed a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen. Read More
