There are an estimated 30,000 children at risk from abuse or neglect in Australia. For most of those kids, their parents or carers are struggling with unemployment, mental illness, family violence, social isolation or substance abuse.
But now in a national first, a child care centre in Melbourne has opened its doors for children who are at risk of emotional or physical trauma. It's a three year pilot program and is being funded by the Federal and Victorian governments, as well as philanthropic organisations and public donations.
