Our Approach

Through direct service, community work and practice based research with children, families and communities caught up in a cycle of abuse and neglect, the CPS builds the knowledge to innovate, lead and influence child welfare practice at a local, State, Federal and International level.

Our Goals

To reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect in our local communities

We will achieve this by:

• Intervening early to bring vulnerable children and families into relationships with services that can provide support for positive change

• Providing effective family support services to families where children are at risk

• Working with local communities to strengthen protective factors and reduce risk factors

To lead and influence child welfare practice knowledge and development

We will achieve this by:

• Leading and contributing to child and family services development at a local, State, Federal and International level

• Employing practice based on sound knowledge and evidence

• Disseminating the knowledge derived from CPS practice

• Successfully innovating in relation to core business

• Replicating successful models in new communities

• Providing therapeutic services to children who have experienced abuse or neglect

• Providing therapeutic support to families caring for children who have been abused or neglected
