The cliche 'you get more out of giving than receiving' definitely applies to volunteering at the CPS Op Shop. The interaction with so many people over my years volunteering, the fun and above all the money raised from this fabulous op shop that helps CPS provide vital services to vulnerable children and families is indeed marvellous.

Volunteering is good for you

Research shows that volunteering leads to improved physical and mental health. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2007)

When you volunteer with CPS you:
  • make a positive difference in people’s lives
  • have the satisfaction of giving back to the community
  • use your skills, experience and interests to make a difference
  • gain practical experience and new skills through training, workshops and support
  • develop new friendships and networks

We would love to hear from caring people who can help in the following ways:

Mentoring Mums

Mentoring Mums is a volunteer mentoring program offering social, emotional and practical support to vulnerable, new or expectant mothers.

This innovative program matches trained mentor/volunteers with new mums for ongoing support to mums who are pregnant or have babies aged up to 6 months. The mentor is a volunteer from the community who is a mother/grandmother herself.

Mentors work to build a trusting and consistent relationship with mothers, supporting them in their parenting role and connecting them to the community by encouraging access to health services, maternal and child health services, parenting groups and other community services.

Because I am a mother and grandmother myself, I felt I had a lot of experience that I could bring to the program.  The right kind of support can really help a mother in a difficult situation.  That’s what’s so good about CPS.
