Lunchtime Rumours Feast 22nd August 2008
Posted on 10-10-2008
Rumour has it that this year’s Luncheon was a huge success!
490 CPS supporters filled the glamorous Plaza Ballroom to capacity.
The Children’s Protection Society President, Dr Alice Hill, introduced the event and launched our 2008 DVD ‘Our Future Their Future’ which brought home the message of the importance of early intervention to achieve the best outcomes for socially and disadvantaged children. (This thought provoking DVD can be viewed via the link on our home page.)
Ross Stevenson from 3AW kept the crowd entertained with his usual lively banter along with regular breakfast members John Burns, John Silvester (aka ‘Sly of the underworld’), Cindy Sargon (aka ‘Lazy Susan’). Joining them off the interchange bench for the day, as substitute for John Anderson, was none other than footy legend and Channel 7 sports commentator Tim Watson.
Auction bidding for those things ‘money can’t buy’ was fast and furious raising $18,000. Successful bidders and their friends will be found at some of the hottest events in Melbourne during the next months including The AFL Grand Final and Breakfast Banquet, Myer Marquee on Crown Oaks Day, the Myer Spring/Summer Fashion Launch, The Footy Show and 4 guests will enjoy a spectacular lunch with Ross Steve nson, John Burns and John Silvester.
We are glad that so many of the delightful GUND toys found their way home as gifts for children and grandchildren although we believe that many have been kept by some adoring patrons too! We know of at least one of the large stuffed toys from the stage is going to an extra special home to be enjoyed by many.
As for the Rumour of the day “Within 6 months legislation will be introduced that requires all racehorse owners to undertake a police check”, it went to air on 3AW on the following Monday whilst the Rumour monger won a golf bag.
The event has raised $94,000 which will be used to provide early childhood services with a particular focus on the establishment of a children’s centre specifically aimed at quality care and parenting support for children from vulnerable families. All donations help CPS continue our mission to break the cycle of abuse and neglect in families and to improve the life chances and choices for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
All at CPS would like to thank everyone for their generosity, participation and support especially CPS patrons Elaine Marriner and Ross Stevenson.
Planning is already underway for the 4th 2009 Rumours Feast. Rumour has it, next year will be even better than this years – you can help make this rumour true by supporting the event again.
Thanks again to our sponsors who helped make the event possible.
