What do Angels Do?
Protect children of course, which is the most important aspect of our work at CPS.
Soon visitors to CPS in Heidelberg will be greeted by a host of colourful Angels drawn and painted by moe than 70 children from St Pius X Primary school in West Heidelberg.

Earlier this year CPS launched the CPS Angel’s Project calling on the generosity of people to come forward and to assist us in providing protection for the children in our communities by becoming donors to CPS. So when we wanted to brighten the entrance to our buildings what better way than with a host of Angel’s protecting our most valuable assets - the children in our community. Children from St Pius X worked alongside resident CPS artist Rhonda Symons to produce the latest mural for our walls.

Over 70 children were involved, the grade one/two’s used their creative talents to draw a multitude of angels which the grade 6’s then worked as a team to paint. What did the grade 6’s think about the mural project:
”It looks great!”
“The mural looks really good.”
“Our work gets displayed outside the CPS place.”
“The grade one two’s did a really great job at drawing the pictures of the angels.”
“It was fun to do.”
“We all worked together as a team and we all had fun.”

The mural was unveiled and handed over to CPS to as part of CPS’s celebrations for Children’s Week in a special school assembly at St Pius X where Ms Bernadette Burchell CEO met and thanked all the artists involved.

The Covering Empty Walls Project at CPS helps us connect with our local community and the children in our neighbourhood through the visual arts. The aim of the project is to create a child friendly, beautiful and welcoming space and as Ms Marianne Mahony says to celebrate the creativity and talents of the children of West Heidelberg. This mural will join 2 others-“Being Friends” created by Students at Haig St Primary School and the “Playing Together” by Bellfield Primary students. Together they combine to showcase the artistic talents of our local children.

"What a wonderful opportunity for our students, indeed our school.’Our Angels’ was a joy!” exclaimed Naomi Marron Art Teacher at St Pius X. “Painting the mural gave these students valuable quiet time and opportunity to discover that they can all contribute in some way. Thank you to CPS for providing our students with this opportunity - being able to contribute to our community in such a beautiful and positive way."

With this many Angel’s on our walls we hope our CPS vision will be achieved with all children living and thriving in safe families and communities.
