CPS’s annual fundraiser has become a key calendar event for the wider CPS community. With over 500 guests and over $130 000 raised, the 2010 Lunchtime Rumours Feast held on Friday 20 August was bigger and better than ever. Marriner Theatres kindly hosted the event again this year and guests enjoyed the wonderful surrounds of the Regent Theatre Plaza Ballroom, as well as delicious food and wine, while learning more about CPS’s vital work. Janet Williams-Smith, Manager Early Childhood Services, gave a brief presentation on the newly opened CPS Child & Family Centre. Janet showed the before and after of a building that needed some TLC to get it ready to welcome the kids who have already undergone transformations of their own. Vulnerable children without access to mainstream child care are blossoming because of high quality care and education, tailored to their and their families’ needs. 
The Children’s Protection Society was proud to host an art exhibition celebrating the importance of families in the lives of children as part of National Families Week. The exhibition ‘Our Families’ featured the artwork from 30 children from Ivanhoe East Primary School. Functional families provide the corner stone for happy, healthy and well adjusted children. 
‘Harmony’ brought together four Thornbury Primary Schools: Holy Spirit, Pender’s Grove, Thornbury and Wales Street for our term 1 art exhibition at the Children’s Protection Society in Heidelberg. Facilitating harmony in children’s lives is a vital aspect of CPS’s work with vulnerable children so it made for a great exhibition theme. CPS & Aquent - DonationPosted 
The benefits of high quality childhood education and care are well know, and the Children's Protection Society (CPS) recognizes that often those who would benefit most are those least likely to participate in early years services. With this in mind, CPS have embarked on an Australian first program designed to provide access to vulnerable families to ensure they are better supported to care for children, while at the same time transforming the life outcomes of children in the form of a special purpose, developmental focused early education and care centre in Heidelberg. 
Being child centred, CPS is always challenged to be more innovative and flexible in working with children, families and communities. With more and more clients for CPS in new growth corridors, often with limited public transport, access to services is sometimes limited. Fortunately CPS has a partner in Toshiba. Toshiba and CPS have worked together to overcome the issues of access, innovation and flexibility, values jointly shared by both organisations for over 17 years.

Harmony is the theme of our current art exhibition in the Elaine Marriner Children’s Gallery at CPS. It features art work from three Reservoir Primary Schools - Reservoir East, Ruthven and St Gabriel’s in order that we at CPS can celebrate the diverse communities in which we live and work. The exhibition to celebrate National Harmony Day on the 21st of March was officially opened by Mr Robin Scott M.P for Preston who presented each artist with a certificate and small gift in appreciation of their work. As temperatures soar, volunteers in the Rosanna CPS Opportunity Shop are keeping their cool thanks to a new dual system cooling system purchased with monies received from a $5000 grant from the Commonwealth of Australia, Department of families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs Volunteer Grants Program. 
Mrs Clemens joined the CPS committee of management in 1961. This was already a family affair as her mother, Mrs. Emily Turnbull, had also served on the committee and as President in the 1940s. Mrs Clemens served on the committee for 18 years, 16 of them as President. The Presidency became a fulltime, unpaid job and for much of the time Mrs Clemens was the President, the de facto CEO and main fundraiser for the Society and she enlisted many family and friends to help. 
CPS has renamed the Doula Project to the Volunteer Support for New Mums project to illustrate through the name what and who the project is trying to provide support for. Recruitment of Volunteers has begun. |
